Also...

It looks as though we've now got a show in Baton Rouge, Louisiana after we wrap up in Texas. That is some fantastic news. Never been to Louisiana, this gets me pretty excited. It's also just good to know we'll most likely end up with only one day off.

The clubs are just letting out here in this part of Chicago. The conversation of Latino guys wearing cowboy hats and tuxes periodically become completely audible as they walk by the windows out front. So there's that.

The last three days

We just settled down for the night at John and Matt's place in Chicago. Here's a quick recap of the last few days.

We had a great experience for our first time visiting Milwaukee. Though trying in its own way, with something like 14 bands on the bill and our severe lack of sleep, it was a hell of a show. I'd like to thank the security for absolutely not giving one shit. Other than that, it was awesome of Rod and the Miramar for hosting such a huge event and no small feat providing that many bands free pizza. So hell yeah. And much love goes to Kelsey and Joe for putting up about 13 dudes in their apartment.

Yesterday we recorded with Chris from Joie de Vivre and his co-conspirator Mark. Mana Burn is done, roughly mixed, and will hopefully be online fairly soon. We're all very happy with how it turned out and surprisingly not as sick of hearing it as one might think. We've got some good photo and video documentation of the recording process to share eventually.

As for DeKalb, Illinois; DeKalb is a raunchy place, full of characters. I'd recommend visiting. Tonight's set was the most fun I've had so far. Felt good to be in a basement. We also got to play with Joie de Vivre for the first time tonight and it has made us all the more excited to be part of a vinyl release with them.

-Dan's favorite thing about DeKalb was how spicy his burrito was at local hotspot El Burrito Loco.

-Jon's favorite part of the night was when a very drunk character who was attempting to sell pocketknives and illicit paraphernalia to house guests unceremoniously fell on his ass in getting up the basement stairs.

-Brok is too asleep to ask what the best thing about our DeKalb experience was.

We leave for St. Louis with Cloud Mouth tomorrow afternoon. I believe both Brok and I have yet to change our clothes. New Year's Eve looks to be ridiculous. We've been told there will be waffles afterward.

I'll probably be awake again in five hours or less. The lack of sleep continues. Here's hoping things like that don't have a way of catching up with you.

Day one down

Grand Rapids was awesome last night. That was the best DAAC show we've ever been a part of. Turnout was ridiculous. So many good people crammed in one room. Thank you for that.

We'll be in Milwaukee later today. This will be our first visit as a band to not only Milwaukee, but the state of Wisconsin altogether. Ridiculous times are ahead as we have Native, La Dispute, and Cougar Den to look forward to hanging with.

What a night

Here's us in Staunton, Virginia (Pronounced Stanton by locals) from back in November.

Let's begin at the beginning

It's about time we had something a little more personal than just our myspace. We'll be using this blog to keep you more frequently updated about what's going on with our band.

In a few short days we'll hit the road for our fifth tour ever. We'll be doing a handful of days here in Michigan, in Wisconsin for the first time, and in Illinois - along with taking a day to record in Rockford with Chris from Joie de Vivre (more momentarily) - then meeting up with the good, good dudes in Cloud Mouth to make our way to Texas. We'll be bringing in 2010 by piling all seven of us in their van in Chicago and driving to St. Louis to play the big New Year's bash at the Lemp arts center.

With this blog, we're going to do our best to keep you updated from the road. Keep an eye out as that unfolds.

As for the new recording, Count Your Lucky Stars will be doing a four-way split 10" vinyl release with a song a piece from us, Annabel, Empire! Empire!, and Joie de Vivre. It's terribly exciting for us to not only be doing our first vinyl release but to share it with these three kickass bands. For our contribution, we'll be recording one of our newest songs 'Mana Burn,' which is part a calculated plot to become the first band ever sponsored by world leader in hobby games Wizards of the Coast and thus receive free Magic: the Gathering cards for life.

New shirts are on their way for this upcoming tour. Us and CloudDog will also have tour posters on hand.

Live fast.
