Do Right And Kill Everything

So we are back from our midwest trip with For Want Of. Although we couldn't make two of the shows happen, we had a blast with our new Texas friends. Many thank yous are in order...

-Our Cloudy boiz, Matt, John and Zach for setting us up one of the best Chicago shows we've played, letting us crash two days in a row and tearing it up as always.
-Jack Senff and the Analecta boys for setting us up a show in South Bend even though the weather prevented it from happening.
-Greg from The Dan Akroyd House for the show, place to crash and letting us get back into his house cause we are a bunch of forgetful assholes.
-Eric and Will in Louisville for setting us up at Skull Alley. We weren't able to make the show because of van troubles but they tried their best to make happen for us.
-Jay at Gas America in Crawfordsville, IN and his brother Tom Ross for being the nicest strangers I've ever met. When our van broke down Jay got a hold of his brother and he fixed our van on the real real cheap in the parking lot of Advanced Auto. Can not thank them enough, they saved us around 800 dollars. Without them we wouldn't have been able to finish the tour.
-Andy at The Monster House for the food, show and awesome place to crash.
-The dudes in Annabel for letting us play their record release show and Corey, Scotty and their room mates for letting us crash at the Kling Thing house and step on people's shoes.
-Victoria and The DAAC for consistently booking us excellent shows in Grand Rapids.
-All the new and old friends we got to see and play with all the nights of tour: The New Yorker, Goose, Sweet Talk, Graphite, Oh! Goliath, Last Legs, Leonard Hatred, Maryn, bst.cr, Drug Money, Into It. Over It., Two Handed Fools, Nigel Thornberry, Boy With Mace, Good Teeth/Gold Teeth and Cain Marko.
-Last but not least the dudes in For Want Of. Without those dudes, we would probably still be stranded in Indiana. They consistently stayed positive and made the tour 100 times more awesome. I'm so glad they could make it to the midwest and become some of our best friends.

Now that is all out of the way. We are excited to announce that this March we will be doing a 2 to 3 week tour with Empire! Empire! to make it down to Texas to play SXSW. So pumped for this and there will be more details about that soon!

Before that happens we are gonna do a little 7 days run out west a little farther then we usually do. If anyone can help us out, get at us. Here are the dates for that:

Feb. 18th: Indianapolis,IN
Feb. 19th: Champaign, IL
Feb. 20th: St. Louis, MO
Feb. 21st: Columbia, MO
Feb. 22nd: Kansas City, MO
Feb. 23rd: Cedar Falls, IA

Talkin About That Country Shit

Get out the way, pretty Joie coming through!!!! This weekend was an amazing one. Even though our tour with our best friends Joie De Vivre couldn't happen. We salvaged what we could and made an excellent weekend out of it. On Friday, we played the 3rd last show of the Cabana House in South Bend. I don't think we have played anywhere else in South Bend except the Cabana House in the last year. It was sad to see it go but it was a great night. We got see many friends and make a lot of new ones. If you haven't checked out Analecta, William Bonney or Into It. Over It. yet, do yourself a favor and give them a listen. Our friend Dave Summers took some rad pictures:

After our show, we slammed some Del Taco, made our way back to Kalamazoo with Joie De Vivre and rested up for the DAAC. In the morning there was much NBA Jam and wiffle ball to be played.

The DAAC was amazing as always. William Bonney kicked off the night right. It was awesome getting to spend the weekend with those dudes. We go way back with Jack and Michael and their band is amazing. Charles the Osprey followed and melted our faces. Seriously one of the best Michigan bands playing right now. They just put out a 12 inch record on Friction Records. Check it out! Thanks so much to everyone who came out and yelled along, the DAAC is our home away from home. It was awesome to see so many friends. We had to end the night right and our friend Arthur had a little favor to ask Russ. So we did it up as shown here:

BOOM! Chewbacca Mask! After the show we said goodbye the only way we know how...arm wrestling competition. Russ of course won.

Thanks so much to everyone who came out to see us this weekend. We had a blast. Thanks to Joie De Vivre for playing some of my favorite music and being some of the most solid guys I've ever met. Next weekend we are doing a weekend with The New Yorker from Chicago. Grand Rapids on Friday and Kalamazoo at the No Fun House on Saturday. BOOYAH!

Words and Shit

We've been meaning to do this for awhile, so here are the lyrics to Full Health.

Also if anyone is interested, here is the link to purchase Full Health on Itunes:
Full Health on Itunes

Pretty Big Doses:
Those long loud nights spent underground. Watching and singing in the crowd. This may lead to broken bones./Half of you went crawling home with your tails between your legs./Structures. Fractures./Make your way right up to your room and take yourself right out of our lives. Oh god, what a good way to make some life long friends./I won't forget my time spent in this place. These memories make for great stories./Embrace your surroundings.

Dungeons and Dragqueens:
Face it, your memory's been erased by gift registry and table arrangements./ Move along as we move forward. I've lost another good friend./ Face it, she's faceless. Her ink stains erased us./I wish this winter would end. The air has left me frigid and doubtful./ It's not a means to an end./ Now I wear the things I learned on my sleeves. With my sights set straight as we take next steps./ It's not a means to an end. You're half-hearted lack luster. You can't find your own way. Release my friend./You've failed him./Beaten him in./You failed him./Release my friend./You failure./You are decay.

Bulls on Patron:
Lets start the new year right. My clothes are layered thick and they won't leave my back for the next two weeks. But there's one thing that doesn't sit quite right and it lingers like an awkward silence./Listen to your friends. Tell them what you think you oughta know. And if they're your friends, they'll tell you what they've been told./Days have been passing, he doesn't acknowledge. And in his final moments he knows that they follow him home./Bad moons and dirt roads wont get us very far. Does this not feel right? Tensions will rise. Friendships will end. New ones begin. Lets start over.

Peyote Ugly:
Footsteps made heavy trace our way./I don't know where I'd rather be than sitting on this porch with you until the summer goes away.

Roman Sideburns:
Hey feline, watch me do cartwheels through your front lawn. Spend my time in dirt and trees. It clears my mind, helps my breathe. Hey feline, check this out./My shoulder cracks as I wear down this wheel. There is a line for some gratuity. I feel so unaccomplished. I've got what you want so pick up your goddamn phone. There is no way I'm coming back here in this fucking cold./I don't want to waste my time in this whole with you./This youth can last.

200% Sweater
I can't believe I've found my calling. Face up to the sun with my arms stretched through the roof. I can't believe that I've found my calling./Throw your habits in the fire. Days are dead long. I tend to break my own rules from time to time. Put it out./Face down in the sand, I've made a real impact on this town. I've found my calling. All it is is just call and response. Just call and response./My good friends are outside, don't mind them. Try not to wake the neighbors. My parents are gone all weekend. Don't worry about the mess here. We'll clean up when you come back over.

Aerosmith Kids:
No I didn't study but still I had to take the test. Things aren't looking up for me academically. Barricaded in my room hoping that no smoke would go through. Day dream about things I wish I could do. Don't bother me before noon./More of these heavy rock riffs wear out the speakers at my place of employment. I'd rather enjoy my friends riffs in my car where I can get some enjoyment out of my best friend's gifts./Now I'm living for my self. Varsity blues can't bring me down and stop me in my tracks. Don't bring me down./My best friends write the best riffs./ Don't bring me down. We'll stay to the end.

Home From Tour and Upcoming Tour with Joie De Vivre

So we made it back safe and sound from our summer tour with Victor! Fix the Sun. It was long but we had a blast to say the least. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported us. Also thank you to everyone who has come out to our last couple local shows we played. They have been some of the best Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids shows we've had ever and we helped out a lot of awesome touring bands. Please check out these bands if they come through your town: 1994!, Big Kids, Former Thieves, Native, Snowing and Pansori.

This is what we did all summer:

We went on many tours on this tour:
GHS String Factory in Battle Creek,MI!

Busch Beer Factory in St. Louis!

We got to hang with a ton of awesome people!
Bobby from Canyons!

Adam from Jersey. Nicest guy I have ever met.

And my baby Shiflet!

We did a lot of swimming. In pools...

And off cliffs in to lakes!

Sometimes things got real road hard.

When things got tough, Jeffe got nasty...

And more nasty...

Until he got me to join his nasty crew.

And I got way nasty.

But overall, things were awesome and we got hang with our best friends
Victor! Fix the Sun and watch them melt our faces 32 nights in a row. Even in the smallest of knooks.

Thank you to everyone who gave us a place to play or stay, something to eat or just hung out and was nice to us.

And now people are about to start boxing. This is bad news.

Holy cow

The name of the game here in Greensboro tonight is a down-home Southern style BBQ courtesy of the boys in The Bronzed Chorus. Tour rules. Look to see those dudes up our way in September. Hunter's going to be selling bottles of his own secret family recipe barbecue sauce when they come.

200% Sweater video

A couple weeks before we left for tour we got the chance to play shows with Pianos Become the Teeth while they were in Michigan. Our boy Chad from Pianos shot some video of us doing one of our new songs in Mt. Pleasant. Check it out. Thanks to him and much love to all those guys.

Savannah to North Carolina

We played Savannah, Georgia last night and it was wicked. Seriously, that town is really cool and I can't wait to go back. Everyone at the Pony Pen is top notch. We had a stupid fun time. On top of getting to see our boy, Midwestern ex-pat Cameron "Baby" Shifflet, in Circle Takes the Square's home turf I managed to pick up a never-played copy of As the Roots Undo on vinyl for only five measly bucks. Score.

Got into Greensboro earlier to hang with the dudes in the Bronzed Chorus for our day off. We've been feasting on grilled food, relaxing, and listening to those two make ridiculously intricate music. Rad times.

Mid-tour update

We're two weeks in and here's a quick update about what's been going on: Tour started off with a bang. The kickoff show at the Strutt was a blowout and a perfect way to begin a solid trip. Afterward we visited friends in Bloomington and St. Louis, had a great time, and then set off for uncharted territory. Our ventures into the West and Southwest proved defeating with long drives and some less than encouraging incidents in new places. Not to say it was all negative, and we thank everyone who we made friends with and helped us out along the way, but tensions ran high and the future outlook turned occasionally bleak. After a recharge in the Fort Worth/Dallas area of Texas with family members we so infrequently get to see, things began to look up. As of Austin we have had nothing but solid, revitalizing shows - a couple to remind a person why you took an entire month off of work at your stupid, sandwich-making job to begin with.

We're in Florida kicking it with our boys in Antarctic. They are showing us nothing but a great time. We swam in the ocean today, sneaked into something like our fourth or fifth pool of tour, and are now being treated to a St. Augustine grill fiesta, complete with plentiful beers and a dope porch to enjoy.

That's what I can think of for now! More to come as soon as motivationally possible.

Michigan to Michigan - by way of America

This is it. The tour kickoff show was tonight and it was a blast. Big thanks to everyone who came out and everyone who partied afterward. I am truly thankful for all the friends I got to see tonight before leaving for the next month. We'll try to update from the road. To those at home, see you 30 days from now. To those along the road, see you soon.

My PNC Bank

We've never posted pictures before! This is exciting! These are pictures of us recording with Chris French (from Chris French and the Joie de Vivres).

Dan finally became a man.

Russ did not.

Chris was fucking pissed the whole time.

This isn't us recording but it's proof that we never liked Brok anyways.

We're super stoked to have the new stuff out for all of you to hear (soooon!). We MIGHT have some stuff up later today. Only if we get to 35,000 friends on myspace by the end of the day, that is.
Jon

Recording

We're in the middle of our third and final day of recording. Jon and Dan are taking care of vocals while I kick back and enjoy doing nothing. Chris French (of the Joie De Vivres) is doing a great job with the recordings and I'm already more proud of what we've done here than anything else we've committed to record. Expect some unmastered versions of a couple songs to be online soon.

Clash of the Titans sucked. Don't go see it.

Swimmingly,
Russ

Next weekend

We've been busting our butts in the last few weeks practicing and writing songs. We're ready to play some shows this next weekend. What is unfortunate both for us and everyone else involved is Charles the Osprey will no longer be joining us. Regardless, hope to see you in Grand Rapids or Chicago.

Sunday, February 21, 2010

What is up

Our tentative scheduled time to record is some long weekend in mid-March. Song five is finished as of today, minus vocals. That's out of six or seven that we're shooting for. Our desire to pump some post-quartet Reptilian into your ears is overwhelming.

Other things that kick ass on the horizon are: a weekend with Bad Words, Charles the Osprey, Good Teeth/Gold Teeth, and The Midwestern. Both days, all five bands. Grand Rapids then Chicago.

And THEN: a string of three or four shows with Annabel and Joie De Vivre at the end of April.

ALSO, this Summer we set out on the road for a month beginning June 26. We'll have specifics on that soon.

PLUS Jon got an iPhone so in the future he better be doing all kinds of updates from the road.

This is all the good news swirling around us at the moment.

Three's Company

Coming off our first show as a three-piece this weekend, we'd just like to say thanks to everyone who was there. This past Saturday was something else. It felt great to receive such a positive reaction to what we're doing now. It was fun. Let's do it again soon.

It's a point of pride that we were able get 1994! and Algernon Cadwallader out here all the way from Philadelphia and show them such a good time. Same goes for our old friends in Empire! Empire! as well as one of the coolest bands to pop up in Kalamazoo in a long time, War Dogs of the Pacific. We love that such wildly successful shows happen right here in our hometown and that we get to be a part of them.

Something cool

http://www.flickr.com/photos/three-six-five-project/

This is our friend Dan Lane, in one picture a day.

Blog Fail

I wish I had been able to update more from the road. One day maybe we'll have the technical wherewithal to make such feats possible. Suffice it to say, tour went well. Mostly. Nothing but thanks and love goes out to Cloud Mouth for the being the best dudes to share a van with and get to see perform for two weeks.

I was impressed and delighted by turnouts nightly. It's reassuring and encouraging to visit so many far away cities and see so many people come out every single show.

We were nearly entirely wiped out of all merch we had to our name. Also terribly encouraging, terribly flattering. We'll be working on getting more together but bear with us if we see you soon and are out of something.

Some quick highlights:
-Getting to watch Former Thieves not once but twice throughout tour. That band is sick and if you don't know about them already, you'll undoubtedly be hearing much more very soon.
-Cougar Den, you best believe. Always, ALWAYS good.
-Recording Mana Burn with Chris French. Song sounds rad if I do say so.
-New Year's. Best I've ever had. Shout-outs to Hannah, Megan, and Katie for the New Year's bubbly heist.
-Multiple stops throughout Texas for margaritas with fun-loving Zonk Wonkbonk.
-Texas in general. They've got palm trees by the coast and sell beer in fast-food restaurants.
-Reuniting with our brothers Lawrence, Wes, and Guillermo.
-Little Rock, Arkansas: bloody fucking mess. Only night ever our sensibilities have been so jarred we had to get a hotel. Wreak Havoc! still rules and at least live up to their name, so to speak.
-New Orleans: I made it there before I died. Really would like to actually get to tour the city sometime though.
-Dolcim. That band fucking owns.
-Any night we got to play with Native and La Dispute. Geezohpete those guys make a show fun.

---

Aside from all the good, it is unfortunate to have to announce that the end of this past tour was marked by the decision for Brok to depart from our band. It's been discussed more fully already on our myspace page so I won't go into it much. We played our last show with Brok this weekend in Traverse City. The Reptilian will remain Jon, Dan, and Russ from now until the end. Jon will be taking over on bass and we will be undergoing a major overhaul.

Randomly

Dan: "I am not watching Ernest Scared Stupid."

Lawrence: "This isn't your house, is it?"

Shortly after...

Jon: [in reference to a space heater] "That is one thing that should not be propped up like that."

Lawrence: "Is this your house?"

Truthfully...

Right now Brok is utilizing the T-Pain app on Lawrence's iPhone to autotune his voice.

There's a lot over the past few days that should be covered but it's currently being overshadowed by how rad our stay in San Antonio has been. We got in late last night to crash with our brother Lawrence from Sohns. Old boy has the hookup in this town. His house is like a museum to nerd-goodness and horror movie history. We got to see the Alamo today. And we were treated to an absolutely free trip through the Ripley's Believe It or Not haunted house.

By the way, Texas is the only state I've been to where you can by beer (AND margaritas) at a fast food joint.

Tour has been so good to us. But it's only been better since we hooked up with Cloud Mouth. There is so much that should be mentioned that I can't even begin to go into.

For now, here are sick photos from New Year's Eve at the Lemp in St. Louis, taken by all around good guy Dave Summers. I'm still sore from that night.
